How to buy the Book/WebAssign Access Code
For this course, you must purchase two things, although there are several different ways to do this:
-
The book: Calculus - Alternate Sixth Edition; Ronald E. Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, Bruce H. Edwards; Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, New York; 1998.
-
The WebAssign access code
There are several different ways that you can purchase these two items:
-
The book/access code bundle contains a new copy of the book and a WebAssign access code packaged together. This is the best option if you want to buy a new book. This may be available at the BMCC bookstore or Manhattan books, as well as online bookstores such as amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com, however, you must be sure that you are purchasing the version of the book that comes bundled with the code. The publisher's website (see below) may be the best place for you to purchase this bundle, if you want to be completely certain to get the right package (see below).
-
Buying a used book and the access code separately may be a good option if you can find a used book cheaply (check the new book bundle prices first - they may be cheaper than buying a used book and the access code separately!). If this is the only calculus course that you will take at BMCC and you don't mind having an electronic book that you can only access from within WebAssign instead of a paper book, you can also choose to simply buy the online access code without a separate paper book (however, if you then later take another calculus course at BMCC, you'll have to buy the paper book anyway). The best way to buy the access code by itself is to simply login to WebAssign and register for the course, and then to follow the prompts to pay for access that should look like the image below:
-
Publisher Website:
http://www.cengagebrain.com/micro/bmccmat (select MAT 301 from the drop-down menu)
If you want just the webassign access code, I do NOT recommend buying it from this website, because they will mail you a card with the code on it and you will NOT have instant access (and sometimes it is more expensive than simply buying the code inside webassign). However, if you want the book/code package, this may be the best place to get it.

Bookstores near BMCC
- BMCC Bookstore, first floor of BMCC main campus
You can now order your books online from the BMCC bookstore. Click here to go to the BMCC bookstore webpage.
-
Manhattan Books at 150 Chambers St
often also carries BMCC books.
Click here to visit Manhattan Books's website.
- BMCC Library:
If you can't afford to buy the book right away or if you have ordered it online and have not received it yet, the BMCC library should have a copy of the book that you can use to copy the first several chapters so that you won't get behind these first few weeks. The book may only be available at the reserve desk. The library is on the 4th floor of the main BMCC campus.
Click here to visit the BMCC library webpage.
You do not need to buy the book at these particular stores. These are just a few suggestions of reputable bookstores that I am aware of that have carried the book in the past. I cannot guarantee that any of these stores will have the book in stock at the time you go to order it or that any of them have the best price. If you look around, you may be able to find other stores that carry the book at which you would prefer to shop - just be sure you buy the correct book and access code combination!
